Sharing our work in Indigenous education, leadership and research
First Nations Longhouse, Sty-Wet-Tan Hall
March 14, 2007
1:30 – 3:30 pm
Dear Faculty, Graduate Students, and Staff,
You are invited to attend a gathering, “Sharing our work in Indigenous education, leadership and research” on March 14, 2007 at the First Nations Longhouse, Sty-Wet-Tan Hall, from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. The purpose of this gathering is to bring together Education faculty, students and staff involved and interested in Indigenous education, leadership, research, and community partnerships. There will be a plenary information session, discussion circles, and poster presentations. You are also invited to contribute to an information document and poster session.
Many people within our Faculty are engaged in Indigenous initiatives, but we do not know much about the scope and depth of their involvement. This gathering is an opportunity to find out “who is doing what” in Indigenous education.
As a result of the gathering, an information document will be compiled that notes Faculty of Education engagement in Indigenous academic initiatives, research and publications and community-oriented work. This document will be useful for future cooperative endeavors amongst ourselves and useful information for Aboriginal communities and organizations. A future gathering may be held for Aboriginal communities/organizations to meet and dialogue with our Faculty members.
The gathering is sponsored by the Faculty of Education’s Indigenous Education Institute of Canada, the School Leadership Centre, and the Office of Graduate Programs and Research. Dr. Jo-ann Archibald, Associate Dean for Indigenous Education will host the session.
In preparation for a successful gathering please:
a) RSVP to Faye DeAbreu @ faye.deabreu@ubc.ca by March 12, 2006 if you plan to attend.
For inquiries please contact Jo-Ann Archibald.
