2004 School Recognition Award
The School Leadership Centre was deeply encouraged by the
149 schools that submitted applications for a School Recognition
Award (SRA) this year. Each application tells a story of commitment
and meritorious effort undertaken to improve student learning.
These stories come from across the province, from inner city
schools to rural schools, from large schools to very small
schools. Reading between the lines, one encounters the remarkable
work of many teachers and administrators seeking to find new
ways to meet the needs of their students. These are stories
of careful research, of innovation, of risk-taking, of thoughtfulness,
of hope, and of achievement.
We wish to recognize all who took the time away from students,
colleagues, and even family, to prepare the applications on
behalf of their school communities. We understand that it
is always a question as to whether filling out one more application
form will be worth the time away from other responsibilities.
For those who were not successful this year, we urge you to
consider the application process de-brief that is available
on this web-site.
We also gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the
Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Education.
Finally, our congratulations to those schools and their communities
which are the recipients of this year’s awards. It is
a privilege to be able to acknowledge your work.
A School Recognition Award is granted to a school based on
the balancing of two primary categories of consideration:
the school’s past record in improving student learning,
and the school’s proposed project to further improve
student learning. In some cases an award is granted based
upon a strong connection between identified learning needs
and a school’s proposed project.
